Thudufushi, and a walk around the island

Waiting our turn for take-off at Malé.  Looking over the seaplane pilot's shoulders as he watches another seaplane take off.

A few seconds after take-off.  The artificial island of Hulhumalé (right) just keeps getting larger.  Compare this January 2020 photo with the next one, which was taken from roughly the same place just two years earlier - note the dozen or so colourful tower blocks on the right-hand edge of the photo.

Back in Jan 2020 again, this is Thudufushi's sister island Athuruga - we stopped here briefly to let passengers off.

We've transferred from the seaplane onto a dhoni for the short boat ride to the main jetty where the reception committee waits.

Our veranda.

Our veranda.

Our beach was just big enough for our two sunbeds.  Note that the remainder of these "walkabout" photos were taken on our last day, when the wind finally died down and the whitecaps disappeared.

The beach area to our left - plenty of beach here.

The nearby island of Innafushi has been taken over by Planhotel, and they are busy creating a luxury 25-water villa resort.  Here you can see pilings driven into the coral reef ready for the villas.

Plenty of blinding-white coral sand in the sand-spit on this SW side of the island.

On the horizon you can see white water where the deep ocean swell is breaking over the atoll's fringing reef.
